Leadership

  • Eliza Maxwell

    Eliza Maxwell

    CRNP, Owner and Founder

Eliza Maxwell, founder of homeRN, grew up in Richmond, Virginia. She attended the University of Alabama, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and later completed her Master’s Degree in Nursing at the University of South Alabama in 2012. For the past 16 years, she has lived in Mountain Brook, where she resides with her husband, Davis, their two daughters, Beatty and Frances, and their beloved pups, Lady and Pearl.

Eliza began her nursing career at St. Vincent’s Birmingham, working on the orthopedic floor and in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. She then advanced to an Advanced Practice Nurse role with Alabama Cardiovascular Group before transitioning to Alegis Care, a home health agency. During her time in home health, Eliza saw firsthand the critical need for nursing care at home, especially after procedures, hospitalizations, and changes in health conditions to ensure optimal recovery. She also recognized the emotional and physical toll on families caring for loved ones and knew there had to be a better solution. Her vision was to create a model where nurses coordinate care, easing the burden on families while ensuring their loved ones receive the support they need at home.

Determined to fill this gap in care, Eliza founded homeRN in Birmingham to bring expert concierge nursing and caregiving services directly into people’s homes. Her vision quickly gained traction, leading to homeRN expanding across the Southeast. Eliza owns two additional franchise locations in Auburn and Montgomery and leads seven independently owned franchises in Alabama, Nashville, and South Carolina.

As the leader of homeRN, Eliza is committed to providing premier in-home concierge healthcare services, ensuring families receive expert, compassionate support when needed. Through homeRN, she continues to set a new standard for home nursing, helping clients achieve the best possible outcomes in the comfort and security of their own homes.

She started her nursing career at Emory University Hospital in the adult Emergency Department. She then moved back to Birmingham and began working at Children’s Hospital in the CV Surgery Pre op/ Recovery unit and also at a free standing IV Clinic. Katie loves nursing because it allows her to learn something new every day.

Outside of work, Katie loves to go on walks, spend time at the lake and beach, make coffee, and read! She is married to her high school sweetheart, Patrick. They have a baby boy named Banks and a golden retriever named Willa. Katie’s joy in life is seeing the people she loves reach their potential. • Kathleen Shashy

    Kathleen Shashy

    CRNP, Director of Clinical Operations

Kathleen is from Birmingham and graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduation she worked as an ICU nurse at UAB Hospital. She went on to obtain her Masters of Science in Nursing from UAB and began working in surgical dermatology as a nurse practitioner in 2019.

With 7 years of nursing experience, Kathleen has worked in various healthcare settings, including critical care, private practice, and nurse education. Kathleen's role at homeRN includes overseeing our IV Therapy service and collaborating with our team of nurses on patient care. She was drawn to homeRN's model of providing individualized, nurse-led care in the comfort of the client's home and realizes the need for this service in our community. Her favorite part of nursing is providing education to patients and their loved ones. In addition to working at homeRN, she is a clinical associate at Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing, where she leads and teaches nursing students through their clinical rotations in the hospital.

Outside of homeRN, Kathleen enjoys spending time at the lake, reading, and playing tennis. She and her husband have one son, Paul, and welcomed a new baby girl, Kit, in July 2024.

  • Ashley Folmar

    Ashley Folmar

    Director of Marketing & Operations

Though she now calls Birmingham home, Ashley was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. She headed south for college, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of Alabama, where her interest in health and wellness first took root.

Ashley spent the years that followed building a career at the intersection of medicine, wellness, and fitness — taking on roles in business development, marketing, events, and sales that sharpened her ability to grow brands and build relationships across the industry. That experience eventually led her to launch her own business, Folmar Consulting, partnering with small businesses on sales, operations, employment, and beyond. It was through consulting work with homeRN that she found her way into the franchise full-time, joining the team in January 2026.

Today, Ashley works across Franchise Operations and Marketing, serving as a key point of contact for franchisees network-wide — from performance reviews and scorecards to marketing strategy and franchisee support. Her broad, cross-functional experience means she's just as comfortable digging into revenue numbers as she is coaching a team through a marketing campaign.

Outside of work, Ashley is happily kept busy by her husband Andrew and their three children, Henry, Mary Schaefer, and Eloise. Whether she's tackling a home renovation project or exploring a new hobby, she brings the same curiosity and drive to her personal life that she does to her work — always learning, always growing, and always looking for the next way to help homeRN families and franchisees thrive.

  • Lauren Lovell

    Lauren Lovell

    Brand & Creative Director

Born and raised in Birmingham, AL, Lauren attended Auburn University, where she majored in Communications with a minor in International Human Development and Family Studies — a foundation that shaped her lifelong curiosity about people, culture, and connection.

After graduating from Auburn, Lauren relocated to Chicago, IL, where she sharpened her skills in Marketing and Events for the American Bar Association. Upon relocating back to Birmingham, Lauren joined the former Bayer Properties — a developer of high-end outdoor lifestyle centers — working in Marketing and Events and further building her expertise in brand strategy and event execution, before ultimately finding her way to homeRN.

Lauren has been with homeRN since it was just two franchise locations — and has since watched it grow to 11 across the Southeast. Today, she plays a vital role in that growth, partnering with each franchise location on brand marketing, digital marketing, social media, and content creation. Her creative eye and strategic mindset help homeRN franchises tell their stories and connect authentically with the families they serve.

In her spare time (or lack thereof), Lauren enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling the world, and raising three wild boys with her darling husband Adrian. Lauren has used homeRN for both relatives and her own family. That firsthand experience is what fuels her passion for the work: she knows exactly what a gift homeRN can bring to families in all stages of life.
